Reverend Dr. Andrew Chisel

Psychotherapist

Hello, I’m Andrew. Throughout my life, I have been drawn to one central question: What helps people become who they were created to be?

My professional journey has taken me through military service, ministry, executive leadership, organizational development, mediation, and nonprofit leadership. Each chapter has reinforced a belief that meaningful transformation happens when people are given the opportunity to be known honestly, challenged compassionately, and supported intentionally.

As an ordained minister, leadership consultant, and psychotherapist, I bring decades of experience helping individuals navigate personal, relational, spiritual, and professional crossroads. Whether working with pastors, ministry leaders, couples, families, or individuals seeking greater clarity and purpose, I strive to create a space where authenticity is valued and lasting growth can occur.

At this season of my life, I am honored to return to clinical work, bringing together years of leadership experience, pastoral care, conflict resolution, and human development into the therapeutic process.

Clinical Focus

I am particularly passionate about helping individuals explore the intersection of faith, leadership, identity, relationships, and personal integrity. Much of my work centers around those who carry significant responsibility for others, including pastors, ministry leaders, executives, caregivers, and professionals who often find themselves supporting everyone except themselves.

I believe one of the greatest challenges facing our culture today is not cruelty, but dishonesty. We have often confused kindness with silence, and in doing so, weakened the trust that healthy relationships require. My work helps individuals and couples develop greater authenticity, strengthen communication, rebuild trust, and align their lives with their deepest values.

I am especially drawn to conversations involving purpose, spiritual growth, conflict resolution, leadership development, relational healing, and life transitions. Whether someone is navigating burnout, vocational uncertainty, family conflict, or questions of faith and meaning, I believe healing begins when people have the courage to tell the truth about their experiences.

Therapeutic Style

My approach is rooted in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), integrating values-based living, psychological flexibility, and purposeful action. I also draw from my extensive background in leadership development, mediation, and pastoral care to help clients gain practical insight and create lasting change.

Clients often describe me as thoughtful, direct, compassionate, and occasionally humorous. I believe growth happens when people feel both supported and challenged, and I strive to create a space where individuals can do both.

My philosophy is simple: Love is leadership, and leadership is love. By definition, leadership is influence. Whether we realize it or not, every day we are influencing the people around us through our words, actions, and relationships. Therapy offers an opportunity to become more intentional about that influence and to create healthier patterns that extend far beyond ourselves.

A Bit About Me

Before entering the helping professions, I served in the United States Marine Corps as a personnel manager. Following my military service, I spent many years leading nonprofit organizations and serving in executive leadership roles focused on organizational development, performance improvement, and human behavior.

I am the proud father of six grown children and continue to find great joy in family, adventure, and lifelong learning. Outside of work, I enjoy sports, fishing, hunting, traveling, and escaping Minnesota winters whenever possible for warmer days in Florida.

Hawaii holds a special place in my heart, and some of my favorite memories involve traveling with family and creating experiences that last long after the trip is over. I also have a lifelong appreciation for Disney, thanks to many years of exploring it through the eyes of my children.

And yes, despite working alongside Vikings fans, I remain a loyal Green Bay Packers supporter.

Above all, I believe people are far more resilient than they realize. When individuals are given the opportunity to live authentically, strengthen their relationships, and reconnect with purpose, remarkable transformation becomes possible.
